Will there be a New Strike at Budryk?

Two unions, Kadra and Unity, whose leaders are to be fired for their part in the 46-day strike in the Budryk mine, are prepared to go back on strike. The August 80 union is not in favour of such measures.

The unions are considering strike action as a response to notice of dismissal given to seven people who were active in the strike, including the leaders of three unions. According to the unionists, the agreement signed to end the strike guaranteed that no disciplinary actions would be taken against the strikers as long as a court confirms that the strike was legal. The management of JSW holding company, which controls the mine, claims that they promised not to take disciplinary action for striking but that they had the right to take disciplinary action for unlawful acts which may have occurred during the strike.

The unions are waiting for legal opinions. They will not decide anything until at least Wednesday.
